About Mary Kay West

Mary Kay West is a native of Asheville, North Carolina. In 2006 she completed a four year apprenticeship with Ben Long and John Mae Kah at the fine arts League of Asheville, specializing in landscape and still Life.

Mary Kay West was trained in the classical realist style, allowing her to see the techniques and materials of the old masters to paint modern subjects with a sense of timelessness. She has been living in the Santa Ynez Valley for the last 10 years.

Artist’s Statement:

Painting in the Classical Realist style gives me the opportunity to reflect and honor, as best I can, the sublime beauty of nature. I’m always humbled by that beauty. I seek for my art to be an act of devotion and am grateful for the brief moments of realization that beauty is the true nature of my own consciousness.
